Sara, Director of Clinical Services

28 June 2019

I am usually found in my office or in meetings at the Hospice when I am not out and about at various meetings and networking events. I also try and visit the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech once a month.

My role is to support all our clinical teams and ensure the services they deliver are high quality, cost effective, safe and responsive.

These services include: Day Therapy, Lymphoedema, In-Patient Unit (IPU), Education Team, Patient Family Support Team, Community team (which includes Hospice at Home night, day and Fenland services), Specialist Palliative Care Home Team and the Alan Hudson Day Treatment centre at the North Cambs hospital in Wisbech. My day is often spent answering emails and attending meetings.

I love the variety that my job brings and I enjoy working with my teams in order to shape services for patients. I enjoy working with the Senior Leadership team focusing on our vision and mission, our values and goals and our objectives and priorities going forward.

I enjoy working with strategic partners within the local health and social care system and contributing to discussions around current issues affecting palliative and end of life care, for example working with Addenbrooke’s hospital with the nurse led beds project on the Inpatient Unit.

I am particularly enjoying the partnership work we are undertaking with EACH Hospice and Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice on transitioning young adults from children’s services to adult services, improving how they access our services.

I am also enjoying seeing how the Hospice can contribute to future research by getting involved with the Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care East of England (CLAHRC) network.
