Runners Rise To The Challenge At The Cambridge Half Marathon

15 March 2019

On Sunday 3 March, 10,000 runners took part in this year’s Cambridge Half Marathon.

We were lucky enough to have the support of 30 #TeamArthur runners, determined to undertake the picturesque 13.1 miles. Their support has raised over £10,000 for Arthur Rank Hospice and its services.

Despite the wet conditions and at times squalid gusts of wind, the streets were lined with hundreds of supporters, braving the elements to cheer on the runners.

The Mitre pub on Bridge Street, which features at approximately mile 2 and 10 on the route, kindly support Arthur Rank Hospice each year and becomes the official #TeamArthur cheer point.

A huge thank you to The Mitre for their ongoing support, and generous bacon rolls and hot drinks provided to our cheer squad. This year’s support was made up of staff, volunteers and the family and friends of our runners.

To our runners, we applaud you! The half marathon was both a mental and physical challenge for many reasons; you decided to run in memory of a loved one, it was your first major physical challenge and for some, you have fought illness and returned to fitness or are training for longer runs such as the London marathon. Whether you had planned to simply complete the course, or achieve a personal best, we cannot thank you enough for taking part and raising vital funds for Arthur Rank Hospice and its services including the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre!

The Cambridge Half Marathon always has such a vibrant atmosphere and this year’s event ended on a high as we celebrated our final #TeamArthur runner, as she made her way to the finish-line to claim the last medal; and close this year’s special event.

Our thanks to the event organisers for putting on a fabulous race, open to all abilities many running with very personal stories. An emotional and humbling experience Sunday for #TeamArthur – if you were one of the many supporters who donated to our runners fundraising total – THANK YOU.

The funds are still coming in. Our total amount raised will be announced soon. We look forward to returning in 2020!
