Mother and daughter plan a springtime trek to Liverpool in memory of son and brother

03 December 2018

Angela McGrath plans to walk 178 miles in memory of her son Daniel after he received end of life care at the hospice, earlier this year. With her daughter Lorna by her side, the duo will trek an average of 30 miles a day in the hope of reaching their target within 6 days.

Daniel McGrath, received his terminal cancer diagnosis in March 2018, spending weeks in and out of hospital before he was finally moved to the Hospice to spend his last few days in comfort.

"The staff and volunteers there were fantastic, even in his last week’s Dan never stopped laughing and joking and was made up to find out one of the nurses was from Liverpool. In his last days family came from all over to see him, and we were all with him when he passed."  Said Angela.

One of Daniel’s last wishes were for his family to raise vital funds for the Hospice, helping others receive the same care that he and his family had. They had lived there until Daniel was 10 and Liverpool Football Club were Daniel’s favourite team, so he suggested they walk from Cambridge to Anfield Stadium.

One year after Daniel first got his diagnosis, Thursday 28 March 2019, Angela and Lorna will begin their trek at the doors of the Hospice. They have planned their route and organised support from local TA Centres on the way who will be able to support them by giving them a place to rest and sleep during the challenge.

Community Fundraiser, Amy Bidwell says:

“We are privileged to support Angela and Lorna fulfil Daniel’s last wishes of completing this challenge. It’ll be a tough one but with their passion and dedication to the cause plus the support they are receiving along the way, we have no doubt that they’ll complete it.”
