Meet our first Ely Festive 5k Runner

14 October 2014

We had the pleasure of catching up with Elizabeth Wright from Ely, our first runner to register to take part in Ely Festive 5k Fun Run on 23 November. Elizabeth, who had heard of the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity through her workplace at Marks and Spencer, because a colleague was cared for, has supported the hospice for a number of years. Her father’s sister received some hospice care a few years ago and sadly passed away at 38years old from breast cancer. She described “Hospice’s are brilliant places; they are truly unsung heroes, there for you – so different to being in a hospital which is known for being un-personal and clinical.  The hospice provided cups of tea and there wasn’t the rush that you expected. Hospice’s make a huge difference.” Elizabeth who only started running at Easter time through the couch to 5k app has two young children, and found the time to run as a great way to relax from the hustle and bustle of everyday life giving her the chance to enjoy the city Ely has to offer. The Ely Runners who often run past her house motivated her to give running a try, having not tried on her running shoes since University some time ago. “The buzz from completing a run is great; it can last for the whole day afterwards and then you can eat your cake and think “I’ve earned this”. There are a lot of running events in Cambridge, so it is so nice to have a fun run like this on our doorstep.

Be part of our fantastic festive event and help us raise funds to really make a difference.  Get into the festive spirit and sign up with your family, colleagues or friends
