We are welcoming runners and walkers alike to participate in this 5km fun run through the historic City of Ely.
Our popular fun run, held on open roads, is open to all ages and will begin from Ely Cathedral at 9am. Santa himself may even make an appearance!
Prizes will be offered for the best fancy dress, and all participants will have the chance to win a spot prize at random. All entrants will receive a free Santa hat and finisher’s medal.
There is also an opportunity to enjoy a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie for a small donation after the event.
I've taken part before, and attempted to win the 'fastest team' prize - why isn't this offered this year? As the event is a fun run and takes part on partially open roads we have been instructed by the Council to remove the 'winners' prizes for fastest female, male, child and team to ensure the event is as safe as possible due to live traffic.
Can I still sign up as a team? Yes, we are still encouraging teams and families to take part. Your runner times will be recorded in the same way, through the chip timing and will be available to view after the event
Why aren't the roads closed on the whole route? As a charity, we try our upmost to ensure the event is safe and fun for all involved. We work hard with our event partners to design the best route possible within a small City. Road closures and chip timing are expensive aspects of the event and for the event to be viable, partial road closures and traffic management crossings are in place to make the route as safe as possible, whilst avoiding lengthy traffic delays for local residents.
Can my dog run with me? Unfortunately, the event is for only human runners and dogs (with the exception of guide dogs) are not able to take part.
Can my children take part using a scooter? We encourage our participants to take on a new challenge and run, walk or jog, the Ely Festive 5k Fun Run. Buggies and prams can be used if little legs become tired.
How many children can participate with every Adult? Parents and Gaurdians can sign up and be responsible for 2 children (under 16yrs) each. This follows changes in recent guidelines provided by the Council. This is due to the fun run being held on open roads.
Can I run with a small baby in a sling or carrier? All Babies and small children should take part in prams or buggies and be registered as participants due to event insurance. The volume of participants in Ely Festive 5k Fun Run increases the risk of accidential trips or falls and adults with babies in slings or carriers could be at risk of hurting themselves.
